Donald E. Lloyd - Historian
Today, we remember Donald E. Lloyd (1920-1994), one of Trafford’s original “keepers of the flame” when it comes to saving local history. The Trafford Historical Society was fortunate to have received boxes of photographs and records that were saved by Mr. Lloyd over the years in order that we may share the history with current and future generations. One of the premiere projects that many of us can appreciate to this day is Trafford’s 75th Anniversary Souvenir Book in which Jay Stokes was Chairman of the committee and Donald Lloyd served as Co-Chairman. Without the use of the internet to complete his research, we are frequently in awe at the amount of time that he put into this publication as well as the vast amount of material he gathered to save our local history. It absolutely cannot be overstated as we continue to use this book as a resource. We do know that he was an employee of Westinghouse and had access to resources that cannot be replicated by our group today. We are fortunate to have acquired the many photographs, negatives, notebooks, and scraps of paper used in his research while Mr. Lloyd worked with the committee to complete the 1979 publication.
Donald E. Lloyd was the son of C.V. Lloyd & Mable Hird. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and served overseas during the war. Mr. Lloyd passed away today, 30 years ago, and it is with the utmost respect that we pay homage to him for his contributions to our community. Cheers, Mr. Lloyd.
