Mary was interviewed by the Pittsburgh Press in February, after her return to Trafford:
"Robert and I went there for a honeymoon 10 years ago," she said. "We liked it so well we decided to stay." The Clarks, parents of two small boys were awaiting the birth of a third child. "I was temporarily hospitalized that morning. When the air attack began the nurse was giving me a bath, and she stopped and we just looked at each other." They thought at first it was an earthquake because the ground trembled, and then she recalled the nurse told her she guessed maybe it was gun practice.
"I stayed a month after the bombing. Then we decided I should come home to have the baby. It required only five days from Hawaii to Trafford.” Two of the children were her boys, Michael and David, “And now the boys have seen their first snow. My mother, Mrs. R. L. Carver, tells me they're delighted, only she finds it difficult to get them to wear proper clothes."
