Thomas Shaw Stewart House
One of the oldest structures in Trafford, located at the corner of First Street and Westmoreland Road, was once known as the Thomas Shaw Stewart House (circa 1874), and for many years had the address of 90 First Street (Irwin Avenue ran along the right side of the property). This parcel of land was originally owned by John Irwin, the man who planned out the town of Irwin, Pennsylvania in 1851. John Irwin and his wife Mary Jane had a daughter, Nancy Hurst Irwin, born in 1845. Nancy went on to marry Thomas Shaw Stewart, and on December 22, 1873, John & Mary deeded this parcel of land to their daughter upon which this home was built. Thomas and Nancy raised their two children in this home located at Stewart Station, North Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County. Thomas died in 1896, and Nancy died in 1902, the same year George Westinghouse purchased the land to build the future town of Trafford City.
