The Milkman - Bob Lloyd

Lloyd BobToday, we remember Trafford’s Milkman, a dear friend to us here at the Trafford Historical Society. Robert “Bob” E. Lloyd Sr passed away last week at the age of 87. Bob was a graduate of the Trafford High Class of 1951 and was once employed by Noll’s Dairy in Trafford. Bob later worked as a milkman delivering for three other dairies in the area. His profession led him to become an avid collector of anything dairy farm-related, particularly old milk bottles. He even took an old toy to replicate his days of delivering milk in the Noll’s Dairy truck. During the 1950’s you could find Bob in the rear garage of 218 Edgewood Avenue, where Noll’s Dairy would pasteurize the milk and then load it onto the truck for delivery to the community.

Bob had a book published called “The Pennsylvania Dairy Handbook,” collecting and cataloging a wealth of information about past dairy farms in PA, all before the internet was available to him for his research. Bob was a wonderful resource for our group whenever we had a question about certain events or people from Trafford. He loved the local history, often asking us if we had a new Trafford History article to share with him since he did not use a computer. It was also important for him to want us to carry on the memory of the students who attended his old high school. Bob’s last contribution to our group was to document the names of all the May Queen’s who were crowned over the years in Trafford. He took it upon himself to document for our group the name and class year of each student who graduate from Trafford High, picking up on a task his stepmother Dorothy Reed-Lloyd started years ago. We still have a few years of classes to add to our website, and we have our friend Bob to thank for his diligence in remembering his alumni. Rest in Peace Milkman, you will be missed.
