Remembering Wayne S. Greer
Today, we remember Wayne S. Greer who was killed in action on February 6, 1968, while serving in Vietnam as a Lance Corporal with Headquarters and Service Company, First Tank Battalion, First Marine Division (Reinforced).
Greer was a 1965 graduate of Penn Joint High School and lived off Meadowbrook Road in Level Green. He was 20 years old at the time of his death and was survived by his parents Homer & Frances Greer, and his five sisters Nancy, Barbara, Donna, Linda, and Diana. Greer worked at Kaufman’s Department Store in Monroeville before joining the Marines in July 1966.
He was reported to have been killed when his platoon was moving across an open field in the vicinity of Tuy Loan Hamlet (I) in the Quang Nam Province in the Republic of Vietnam. He was interred in Restland Memorial Cemetery, Monroeville.
Today we honor and remember the lives of those men who died while serving that day in 1968. Lest We Forget.

The ribbons represent his military decorations: Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with campaign stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation with Palm, and the Vietnam Campaign with date bar.
