Service Flag St. Vid Lodge

These photos were recently donated, and we could use your help in identifying any of the people in the photographs. While they are not dated, the photos were taken by E.E. Bandy, presumably in the 1940s during World War II. We believe the one photo shows the mothers of the men and women listed on the poster in the background. They were taken at the Croatian Fraternal Union of America - St. Vid Lodge No. 541. The lodge was located at 301 Cavitt Ave in Trafford. The large flag with 41 stars was a “service flag” with one blue star representing each person serving. We do know that at least one man on this list died while serving - Nick Subasic. His family may have hung a gold star flag from their residence during the war in honor of him and his sacrifice. serviceflag01

The names of those serving have been transcribed and sorted here to make it easier to help research. If you do recognize a face in the photograph, please let us know and we can document the photograph for future generations. Thanks to Kevin Bandy for making this donation to the Trafford Historical Society. More of his donation will be posted in the future as we process the items.
