Vitous D-Day
The Veterans Breakfast Club magazine (Winter 2021 issue) published two letters that were written by former Trafford resident and fallen soldier John F. Vitous.
John was a graduate of Trafford High, Class of 1937. These letters were written just days after he landed on Utah Beach, part of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France; the Normandy landings on D-Day June 6, 1944.
It is heartbreaking to read these letters, knowing John's fate, but also heartwarming to read his concern of wanting to protect his mother from worry and to protect his younger brother Don from experiencing the horrors that he had witnessed. I encourage you to follow the link posted here to the online magazine.
Thanks to the Veterans Breakfast Club for honoring and remembering John F. Vitous, along with our dear old friend Don, whom we miss. The VBC continues to ensure that living history will never be forgotten.
